Obazda is a typical part of a Bavarian Brotzeit and is often found in beer gardens. It is traditionally served with fresh Bavarian pretzels.
Ingredients
- 400 g Camembert or Brie (very ripe)
- 50 g butter (soft)
- 1 onion (red)
- 1 tsp caraway (ground)
- 2 tsp paprika powder (sweet)
- 6 tbsp beer (lager or wheat beer)
- salt
- black pepper
Instructions
- Cut off a few rings from the onion and set them aside for the garnish.
- Finely dice the remaining onion.
- Cut the Camembert into small cubes.

Mash the Camembert, onion and butter together with the caraway and paprika using a fork, gradually adding the beer. For a finer, creamier consistency, you can also blend everything with a
hand blender .
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- For the best flavour, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavours to develop.
- Garnish with the reserved onion rings before serving.
